Avoid Side Eye this Mother's Day, Vintage is Timeless
Nearly every mother likes to receive flowers, gifts, or a day off of cooking for Mother's Day ... but has your "go-to" routine of a free lunch and a greeting card gotten a little stale? For seasoned moms... gestures like these, while appreciated, are likely be considered as just that... gestures. Now who wants a gesture for Mother's Day? Okay... you ... over there in the far corner... quit waving your arms, lol.
Are you getting you "the look" now from dear sweet Mom? You know, the look that says PUH-LEASE, while serving up some side-eye? The I know you put this together at the last minute ...No worries, the Soaring Hawk is here to help save Mother's Day 2015 with our Vintage is Timeless Gift Guide.
Why not go vintage and skip the Hallmark store for once? A little card and a little spa certificate is always nice, but that certificate has an expiration date and I'd bet that poor mom will probably a wait several weeks to get in for an appointment. Boo Hiss. Oh and then there are just some mom's who don't care for the whole spa thing... your certificate may sit in a drawer for 6 months or even year before it gets used, if at all. It happens! It even happened to me once! Yikes. You might as well be making a cash donation to the spa of your choice. The reality? Some moms are literally too busy to find the time to use gift certificates... especially moms of young children. Does your Hallmark card really hold that much meaning if that same style of card has been mass produced and gifted to 1 million moms this holiday? I think not. It is the thought that counts... so lets take your well meaning and sincere thought to a whole new level.
Consider a beautiful gift of old instead. There's simply more meaning involved when you go with vintage. Gifting a rare piece of jewelry or a limited edition piece of porcelain tells Mom that you applied a little thinking ... you really took the time to consider what she loves. If it stands the test of time, that means love. From the mom point of view, knowing that she has a rare item on hand, one that perhaps no one else owns or is only one of a few remaining in the world... well... that's special. That's thoughtful. That will not get you side eye... it may however render happy tears....so have some emergency tissue on hand and ready. Disclaimer.. this type of gift giving also applies to birthdays, graduations, father's day, weddings, and anniversaries.

Happy Independent Bookstore Day! Support the small stacks.
O yea Oyea! Like me I'm sure you're also celebrating the birth of the newest Royal Princess (YAYYY!!!!!) !!! BUT... It's Independent Bookstore Day ... make sure you turn off the tv, go outside (or knowing you, dear readers... find a cozy corner inside), and read a book today! Support your local independent book store... as in bypassing the big chains...I'll give you a hint ... BN, WB, AMZ, BB...etc... and shop the little shops... like me! Whether you choose to spend your hard earned dollars with me or another independent book shop, you'll be supporting the local economy... not a behemoth corporation, ahem. Spend wisely! As much as I'd love to, I can't lure you in through my imaginary shop doors to woo you with local micro brews, fresh espresso, and trays full of vegan delights, but...here is what I can do...
