There's a Harvest Moon tonight.

5 Harvest Moon Fast Facts

The Harvest Moon is one that falls closest to the Autumnal Equinox.
Some of our favorite veggies are now at their peak.
The bright light of the moon aids farmers in working a little later..."by the light", sing along...
In China ... they'll be devouring moon cakes as part of the Autumn celebrations!
The full Harvest Moon will rise at sunset!
Oh and dear sweet vintage lovers, I'm having a Harvest Moon sale all weekend.

Don't Let the Dog Days Get You Down

Our biggest Etsy sale of the year is on - Shop now!

I apologize in advance if the title of this promo suddenly brought back memories of that DREADFUL song by Florence and the Machine...no...I'm not a fan...not at all. I'm more of a Lana Del Ray girl myself.

Okay, let's get down to the facts:  Where did the phrase dog days of summer come from?

I'm stating the obvious, but in short, the dog days are basically the hottest, stickiest, Lord I cannot breathe -  wicked hot part of summertime.

In the history of team sports, the phrase took hold in American culture long ago, thanks to the baseball industry doing lots of advertising to get fans out to the baseball field to take in a hot afternoon game...or 7. If you're more of a science buff, the scientific origin is quite interesting ... this time of year technically "coincides with the heliacal rising of Sirius, the dog star, in the constellation Canis Major". (Ooh wow, now you know what inspired the Sirius XM logo...isn't history fun?)

So, now you know...wow the masses at your next cocktail party!

What does any of this have to do with my Etsy vintage shop? First and foremost, it's entirely too hot outside....this is just a small spoonful of history to add to your list of facts ... and I'm a firm believer that a little knowledge never hurt anyone. Secondly,(or 4th-ly?) I'm having this huge sale, that does NOT require you to shop all over town in hot temperatures! Let's be honest, 90% humidity + 95 degree days does not make this the ideal time of year to go digging through flea markets for antiques and vintage books, strolling through a street fair, or to run from one antique shop to another...(unless you're the kind of person who is realllly into that summer sauna feeling - go burning man go.) ... I am all for the hunt, but not so much during record breaking temps.  I say skip the hot car, skip the sun beating down your neck in a concrete parking lot, and skip that poorly ventilated antique mall that may or may not have a few dealers who forgot to hit the showers before heading into their office...if you'd rather not get their drift (yes, there's a silly joke in there...somewhere)...click on over, shop small, and browse through 250+ well curated vintage items at Soaring Hawk Vintage...your order will be well packed and shipped promptly. All you have to do is unwrap and enjoy it in just a few days...no sweat equity required.
